Drinks With The Deal: Morgan Lewis' Suh on Father's Influence on Career

Aaron Suh, an M&A and PE partner at Morgan Lewis and managing partner of the firm's Philadelphia office, discusses how he approached changing firms and cities and the deep influence his father has had on his approach to his career.

When he was a child, Aaron Suh said on this week’s Drinks With The Deal podcast, his father was building a business from scratch, which meant frequent travel within the U.S. and to South Korea.

“He would take us to Korea every couple of years,” said Suh, an M&A and private equity partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP and managing partner of the firm’s Philadelphia office. “We would have dinners with his business partners where we got to see how he was establishing his profile and reputation in a cross-cultural way. He is Korean, but he was bringing an American opportunity to Korea. What I took away from those in-person exchanges is that there’s a real role in being a bridge across cultures, across business opportunities, across sectors and specialties.”

And, Suh added, he learned from watching his father how valuable deep personal relationships can be in a business context.

Suh also discussed how he approached moving from Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York to Dechert LLP in Philadelphia as a senior associate when he and his wife were starting a family and his move from Dechert to Morgan Lewis a few years later.
